2012 Visualize the EU Contest: Seeking Sustainable and Secure Connections in Food, Energy, and Governance

Contest Details
Eligibility
Current full-time undergraduate students at the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign
Eligible Media Format
Any (audio)visual media, including videos, “prezis,” graphic design, painting, and sculpture, along with a 500-word essay that explains the submission.
Submission
- Submission must include a signed submission form (.doc, .pdf) and a 500-word essay that explains the submission.
- Video may be submitted on a CD/DVD in *.mov, *.mpeg, or *.wmv format or uploaded onto the internet, such as Youtube, with the link submitted. Photos of paintings or sculptures can be submitted in lieu of the actual object.
- Submission must be appropriate for middle school children to view (no inappropriate visuals, language, or music). Submission must be fully the original work of the student. Any music or visuals must be copyright free, copyright permission-approved, or created by the students themselves.
- All submissions may be used by the EUC to promote EU studies.
Deadline
All submissions must be received by 4:00pm, Wednesday, February 29, 2012. Winners will be notified by mid March.
Judging Criteria
Submissions will be judged on quality, clarity, and creativity by a Review Committee, whose decisions will be final.
Prize
The winner will win a place on a 6-day study tour to Europe in June 2012. The tour is organized by the EU Center with funding from the European Commission's "Getting to Know Europe" grant and will include Illinois K-12 teachers, state legislators, and local journalists. The grant will cover the round-trip airfare from Chicago O'Hare to Europe, travel within Europe for the tour, accommodations and most meals. The student is expected to cover his or her travel expenses between home and Chicago O'Hare airport, some of the meals and other miscellaneous expenses.
**The winning student must have a valid passport in hand. Although the competition is not limited to US citizens, please note that the EU Center will not handle any visa processing for those who need visas to visit the EU. US citizens do not need visas to visit the EU.
Winner Requirements
The winner will be recognized at EU Day in Champaign on March 29, 2012. The winner will be expected to conduct an outreach presentation to secondary school classroom and/or civic organizations.
